US Congressman. He was educated in Underhill and became a teacher, first in Vermont, and then in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. He later moved to nearby Eden and became a farmer, also serving as Town Clerk from 1881 to 1884, and a Fond du Lac County Commissioner from 1884 to 1886. He served as county Undersheriff from 1886 to 1888, and Sheriff from 1888 to 1890. In 1891 Cale became a farm machinery salesman, continuing to work in the Fond du Lac area until he moved to Fairbanks, Alaska in 1898 to mine for gold. In 1906 Cale was a successful Independent candidate for Alaska Territory's Delegate to the US House of Representatives and served one term, 1907 to 1909. He did not run for reelection in 1908 and returned to farming, first in McLaughlin, South Dakota, and later in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. In 1920 Cale returned to Fond du Lac, where he lived in retirement until his death.
