Doniphan, Neb., Sept. 14 (Special Dispatch) - Mrs. Nancy Smith died at her home here Tuesday at 3:45 p.m., death resulting from complications and senility. A homesteader in Hall county fifty-four years ago, Mrs. Smith was among the oldest settlers. Born in Union county, Ohio, on December 4, 1843, she was married at the same place December 24, 1860 to James Wylie Smith. The couple resided in Ohio ten years and then for three years in California. Returning to Nebraska in 1873, they took up a homestead, which has remained the family home, five miles southeast of here. Mr. Smith died July 25, 1909 and, and about fifteen years ago, Mrs. Smith retired to this place.

Seven children survive, four having preceded in death. Those remaining are Mrs. Emma Snearley, Miss Laura, Mrs. Charles Bond, Orille (sic) and Charles, all of this place; Albert of Wadena, Minn. and George, who resides in Maryland. All children are here except the son, George. Arrangements for the funeral were incomplete early Wednesday. Burial will be in Cedarview cemetery. Although Mrs. Smith had been a lifelong member of the Presbyterian church, this denomination is not represented here by a congregation and she has attended the Congregational church.
