A James E. Beebe is then found to have enlisted in the United States army from Peoria County, Illinois on August 21, 1867. He is listed as being 21 and is 5' 5" tall. He served in Co. D of the 33rd Infantry and then in Co. D of the 8th Infantry. At the time of the 1870 census, Private James E. Beebe, age 23 and born in Illinois, is found as one of the many soldiers who are in garrison there in Raleigh, Wake County, North Carolina on June 24, 1870. Private James E. Beebe was mustered out of the service on August 12, 1870 at Raleigh, North Carolina. This is very likely our James E. Beebe.

Then on July 28, 1884, Private James Beebe began collecting an Invalid pension for his service in Co. M of the 11th Illinois Cavalry during the Civil War.

B. George W. Beebe, born c. 1847/48, probably in Illinois. After his father died, George is believed to have been sent to other families to be cared for. At the time of the 1870 census, George is believed to be the George Beebe we find living and working for the Jabez Hull family in LaPrairie Township of Marshall County, Illinois. George is 22, born in Illinois and is a farm laborer.
George is almost certainly the George George Washington Beebe, who is listed as having been born on 24 Jun 1845 in Peoria, Peoria County, Illinois, who was married to Jennie ___________, and who died on 24 Jun 1928 in Peoria County, Illinois. His mortal remains were laid in the Chillicothe City Cemetery in Chillicothe, Peoria County, Illinois. See his Find A Grave Memorial #32406822.

C. Charles Beebe III, born c. May/June 1850, almost certainly in Illinois. After his father died, Charles is believed to have been sent to other families to be cared for. At the time of the 1870 census, Charles is believed to be the Charles Beebe we find living and working for the Robert Pringle family in LaPrairie Township of Marshall County, Illinois. Charles is 20, born in Illinois and working as a farm laborer.

The 1850 census, seen below, has all three of their children born in New York. This is an error. Charles and Catherine were married in Peoria County, Charles almost certainly coming with the family to Illinois c. 1837/38;
Beebe Charles 31 M Laborer Conn.
Beebe Catherine 25 F N.Y.
Beebe James C. 5 M N.Y.
Beebe George 2 M N.Y.
Beebe Charles L. 1/12 M N.Y.

Charles Beebe Jr. is believed to have died by 1865 in Peoria County and as several members of the Beebe family had already laid to rest in the Chillicothe city cemetery and at least one of his children would later be laid to rest in the Chillicothe city cemetery, it is very likely that Charles Beebe Jr's mortal remains were also laid here.

The children are then believed to have been farmed out to other families to work.

At the time of the 1860 census, the James E. Beebe is found residing with his Minor/Miner grandparents in LaPrairie Township of Marshall County, Illinois;
John Minor 85 Farmer Conn
Kate Minor 62 Keeping House Conn
James Beebee 14 ILL

At the time of the 1870 census, seen above, George and Charles are both found working and living with families in LaPrairie Township of Marshall County, Illinois.

Catherine (Miner) Beebe may be the Mrs. Catherine Beebe who was married to John S. Leavenworth on December 29, 1866 in Bereau County, Illinois.

Nothing more is known of Catherine (Miner) Beebe at this time.
