Lucy Hamlin was born c. 1789/90, the daughter of John Hamlin and Lucy Barton, who were married on December 30, 1784 in Somers, Tolland County, Connecticutt. John Hamlin was born c. March 12, 1761 in Tolland County, Connecticut, the son of Nathaniel Hamlin and Rachel Whipple. John Hamlin served as a Private in Blackman's Company during the Revolutionary War and was discharged in 1780. John Hamlin died in Wilbraham, Massachusetts on October 30, 1825. (NOTE: John HAMLIN#s lineage in H. F. Andrews, The Hamlin Genealogy (1900) is incorrect. Somers probate records reveal his parents were Nathaniel & Rachel (WHIPPLE) HAMLIN.)
John Hamlin's death was announced in Issue 13 of the Connecticut Observer for December of 1825. John was proported to be 65 years of age.
After John's death, Lucy (Barton) Hamlin came west to Illinois c. 1837/38 with her daughter, Lucy (Hamlin) Beebe and her family. Lucy (Barton) Hamlin died on February 8, 1841 in or near North Hampton in Peoria County, Illinois. Her mortal remains were laid in the Root Cemetery in Peoria County, Illinois.

Now to continue with the biography of Lucy Hamlin, the daughter of John Hamlin and Lucy (Barton) Hamlin;
Lucy Hamlin was married to Charles Beebe on May 3, 1810 in Wilbraham, Massachusetts. In the 1820's, they are known to have been residing in Hamden County, Massachusetts. About 1837/38, the Beebes came west to Illinois, where they settled in Peoria County, around the area of Northampton, Illinois. They, however, can not be identified in the 1840 census.
Charles and Lucy are believed to be the parents of at least six children. There were probably more. They are believed to include;
1. Henry Crocker Beebe, born c. February 28, 1811, probably in Wilbraham, Massachusetts. Henry C. Beebe was 1st married to Dyanthia Livermore on September 15, 1836 in Peoria County, Illinois. One child may have been born to Henry and Dyanthia;
A. William J. Beebe, born c. 1837/38 in Illinois. William Beebe was married to Mary L. Davenport on April 8, 1863 in Peoria County, Illinois.

Henry C. Beebee was then married 2nd to Sarah Cannon on August 9, 1838 in Peoria County, Illinois. A number of children were born to Henry and Sarah, including;
B. Richard Beebe, born c. 1839/40 in Illinois.

C. Lucy A. Beebe, born c. 1842/43 in Illinois. Lucy A. Beebey was married to John B. Selders on August 22, 1862, just before John B. Selders, would leave for the war as a member of the 86th Illinois. John served in the same company as Lucy's uncle, Ruben B. Beebe.

D. Alonzo Beebe, born c. 1845/46 in Illinois.

E. Jane Beebe, born c. 1847/48 in Illinois.

F. Adiron/Adison/Addison Beebe, born c. Feb/Mar of 1850 in Peoria County, Illinois. Adison Beebe was married to Josephine Bell on January 31, 1872 in Peoria County, Illinois.

G. Alice Beebe, born c. 1853/54 in Peoria County, Illinois.

H. Lavina A. Beebe, born c. 1857/58 in Peoria County, Illinois. Lovina A. Beebe was married to James R. Cannon on December 28, 1874 in Peoria County, Illinois.

4. Charles Beebe Jr., born c. 1818/19 in Connecticut., but more likely in Massachusetts. Charles Beebe Jr. was married to Catherine E. Miner on December 5, 1844 in Peoria County, Illinois
The children born to Charles and Catherine include;
A. James E. Beebe, born c. 1844/45, possibly in New York. A James E. Beebe enlisted in the United States army from Peoria County, Illinois in 1867 and served until 1870. This could be out James E. Beebe.

B. George W. Beebe, born c. 1847/48, probably in Illinois. After his father died, George is believed to have been sent to other families to be cared for. At the time of the 1870 census, George is believed to be the George Beebe we find living and working for the Jabez Hull family in LaPrairie Township of Marshall County, Illinois. George is 22, born in Illinois and is a farm laborer.
George is almost certainly the George George Washington Beebe, who is listed as having been born on 24 Jun 1845 in Peoria, Peoria County, Illinois, who was married to Jennie ___________, and who died on 24 Jun 1928 in Peoria County, Illinois. His mortal remains were laid in the Chillicothe City Cemetery in Chillicothe, Peoria County, Illinois. See his Find A Grave Memorial #32406822.

C. Charles Beebe III, born c. May/June 1850, almost certainly in Illinois. After his father died, Charles is believed to have been sent to other families to be cared for. At the time of the 1870 census, Charles is believed to be the Charles Beebe we find living and working for the Robert Pringle family in LaPrairie Township of Marshall County, Illinois. Charles is 20, born in Illinois and working as a farm laborer.

The 1850 census, seen below, has all three of their children born in New York. This is an error. Charles and Catherine were married in Peoria County, Charles almost certainly coming with the family to Illinois c. 1837/38;

Charles Beebe Jr. is believed to have died by 1865 and the children are believed to have been farmed out to other families to work. Catherine (Miner) Beebe may be the Mrs. Catherine Beebe who was married to John S. Leavenworth on December 29, 1866 in Bereau County, Illinois.

5. John Beebe, born c. 1821/22 in Connecticut or Massachusetts.

6. Ruben B. Beebe, born April 22, 1823/24 in Springfield, Hamden County, Massachusetts. Ruben served in Co. C of the 86th Illinois during the Civil War. See his Find A Grave Memorial for more information about him and his family.

7. Eunice Cornelia Beebe, born c. 1826/27 in Connecticut or Massachusetts. Eunice Cornelia Beebe was married to Alden Wilkey on June 14, 1846 in Peoria County, Illinois. Their children include;
A. Alden Charles Wilkey Jr., born May 22, 1848 in Peoria County, Illinois. Alden Jr. was a blacksmith and mechanic. Alden was married to Mary Almira "Mida" Moffitt on December 6, 1874 in Peoria County, Illinois.

Frances Beebe, born c. 1833/34 in Massachusetts; at the time of the 1860 census, Frances is residing with Job & Mary Ross and their family in the City of Peoria, near her mother and older sister, Amelia (Beebe) Cooper; A Frances A. Beebe was married to Lawrence Kenyon on April 3, 1852 in Peoria County. This believed to be the correct Frances Beebe.

Charles Beebe very likely died in the 1840's in Peoria County, Illinois. It is not known where his mortal remains were laid. At the time of the 1850 census of Peoria County, Lucy (Hamlin) Beebe is found, probably widowed, residing with her daughter and son-in-law, Alex & Amelia Cooper in the City of Peoria;

On April 28, 1870, the Dixon newspaper published a notice about the passing of Lucy Beebe. Though a copy of this article has not been seen, Lucy must have passed away just before this article was published. No tombstone as been located for her, but, her mortal remains MAY very well lie in the Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon, Illinois in what is today an UNMARKED grave.
