Paul is the first born to William Young and Elizabeth Chesney Castleberry in Spartanburg, South Carolina. At the age of 13 around 1843, his father and mother came to Alabama along with James Anderson Castleberry and his wife Lucinda and other members of the Castleberry family. They were the sons and daughters of the American Revolutionary War soldier, Sergeant Paul Castleberry and Agnes Chesney.

Reverend Paul Castleberry was married three times. His first wife was Martha Stone (1829-1849) they married on July 4, 1847 in Calhoun Co., Alabama. Paul would have been 18 years old. Martha was the daughter of Bentley and Jarusha Stone of Chester South Carolina. Paul and Martha had one child John Randolph Castleberry (1849-1873). Martha (Stone) Castleberry died in 1849 after one year of marriage. It is not known if her death was a result of childbirth.

Paul married his second wife Mary Polly Noe on Oct 2, 1851. Mary Polly Noe was the daughter of Abraham and Elizabeth Noe who came to Alabama about 1840 from Franklin Tennessee. Mary Noe was born January 22, 1830 and was 21 years old when she married Paul age 20. Mary's father received a land grant in 1851 near Jacksonville, Alabama for military service in the War of 1812. Mary Polly died in 1874 or 1875 as her headstone reflects she was 45 years of age.

Paul married his third wife soon after the death of Mary Polly. His third wife's name was Mary Margaret Hardwick Blakely (1830-1930) As reflected in the 1880 census and 1900 census, you can see that her children are living with them. Mary Margaret Hardwick Blakely Castleberry is buried at Mount Pisgah Cemetery in New London, St Clair County, Alabama. Several of her children are also buried here.

Paul died in 1905 and is buried here beside his second wife Mary Polly.
