Mrs. Salina Brown Waddy, a high school history teacher in the Lee County School System and a community service leader, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2007.

She received a Bachelor of Science from Alabama State University, a Master of Education from Tuskegee Institute and specialist certificates from Auburn University.

Mrs. Waddy, a teacher for more than 40 years in Wilcox County, Dallas County and Lee County School Systems, was also an avid musician who began her career as a choral instructor. Her musical interests led to not only the direction of voice performances but extended to her children to appreciate, express and perform in musical and artistic endeavors throughout their lives.

Her later work as an American History teacher has fostered an understanding in her students, family and friends of
the past as it dictates present social and political climates and influences future decisions as a community and as a country. She was a traditional person with unconventional ideas.

She was an avid social activist who organized and participated in voter registration drives, elder support services, drug abuse and awareness programs, as well as community clean-up efforts long before more recent widely accepted efforts were formed.

For decades, she volunteered with youth organizations including the Girl Scouts for which she was troop leader for 129 and the 4-H.

She was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church.

Mrs. Waddy is survived by her husband, Dr. Paul Henry Waddy Jr. and her daughters, Dr. Paula Sabrina Waddy and Dr. Salina Paulette Waddy. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Ora H. Brown; her sister, Mrs. Irma Brown Williams and her brother, Mr. Charles Edgar Brown.

Services will be held at Garden Hills Cemetery Sept. 25, 2007, at 10 a.m.
