Funeral services held July 9 for Mr. Rodgers

Last rites for William Leslie Rodgers, 86, were held July 9 at 4:30 p.m. at the Oliver Funeral Home chapel.

Revs. B. C. Nunn, W. M. Hull, Jr., and Kermit McGregor officiated at the services. Burial was in the Mission cemetery with Oliver in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rodgers, who was a native of Montgomery County, died July 8 at Tyler Holmes hospital, following an extended illness. He was a member of the McCarley Methodist Church.

Survivors include six children, Scott Rodgers and Mrs. Bill Elmore, Winona; Bill Rodgers, Greenwood; Mrs. J. C. Howard, McCarley; Wilburn Rodgers, Moss Point, and Howard Rodgers, Shaw.

Also, a brother, Abb Rodgers, Columbus; four sisters, Mrs. Marshall Bennett, Lodi; Mrs. Leath Bennett, Mrs. Percy McCoy, and Mrs. Ruby Matthews, all of Winona.

He had 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were James E. Howard, Charles Brown, David Collins, Larry Minyard, Norton Rodgers, and Jimmy Costilow.

William Leslie married Annie Etta Wright on 12/09/1906 in Montgomery Co., MS. Annie Etta was born on 02/25/1884 in MS and died on 11/15/1962 in Winona, Montgomery Co., MS. She is buried in Mission Church Cemetery, Winona, Montgomery Co., MS.

They had 7 children, which are, as follows: Alice Launa "Nunnie" (05/04/1910 – 10/27/2002), Ella Mae (08/26/1912 – Mar. 31, 2008), Leslie Scott, Wilburn Holmes, William Felix, Howard Sweatmen (Sr.), and Jeff ("Jeffie") Norton Rodgers.

Alice Launa Rodgers married James Cassie Howard (03/03/1899 – 12/27/1972). Cassie and Launa are buried at Mission Cemetery in Winona. Ella Mae Rodgers Brown is buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Winona, Montgomery Co., MS.
