97750 Shoeing Smith C Fox, P Battery, Royal Horse Artillery. Deployed with his battery to South Africa for the Second Anglo Boer War. They were initially deployed on the lines of communication then in Feb 1900 took part in the rush to and relief of Kimberley and General French's advance to Bloemfontein and Pretoria. Shoeing Smith Fox was killed in action on the railway near Kroonstad. He is also commemorated on the Royal Artillery Boer War memorial at the corner of Horse Guards Parade and the Mall, at the north-east corner of St James Park, London (see: https://www.warmemorialsonline.org.uk/memorial/112037).
