GEORGE BENTZ - George Bentz, whose barber shop at 194 Sheridan, was once a neighborhood institution, died today at his home, 245 Sheridan. Mr. Bentz was born in Albany 85 years ago and had been a lifelong resident of the city. As a young man, he learned the trade of a molder and for a number of years was employed by Rathbone, Sard & Company, stove manufacturers of North Albany. After serving apprenticeship as a barber, he conducted shops in various locations before opening his place in Sheridan Ave. Until his health forced his retirement a year ago, he was employed in the Bureau of Streets. Surviving are his sons, Philip and Frank Bentz, and several nieces and nephews. William C. McVeigh & Son will direct the funeral Thursday morning with at Our Lady of Angels Church.
