Grace Opal Farmer was the youngest (4th child) of James McClellan Farmer and Anna May Jones. She was born in Christian County, MO and the family moved to Carthage,Jasper County,MO around 1925. Grace grew up in Carthage and attended Carthage High School and business college. In 1942 Grace moved to Washington DC where she worked as a Secretary in the Department of Health and the War Department. In 1944 Grace joined her Mother May in California and worked as a Secretary at Mission Water Heater Company. She met her future husband Harvard Edmund Christian in 1945, they were married three months later on December 29, 1945. Grace and Harvard bought a home in Hawthorne and raised three daughters, Linda, Debbie and Paula. Grace was a wife and Mother and enjoyed her home. She sewed all of her daughters clothing.

Harvard retired in the early 1980's. They enjoyed their daughters and grandchildren. Harvard became ill in Sept. 2002 and moved to a nursing home. Grace moved to assisted living next door to Harvard. She remained there until after his death. She moved to Liberty, Missouri to live near her daughter Linda in May, 2003. She had a retirement apartment and lived there until shortly before her death in November 2006.
