Patrick McTague enrolled in the the 6th Regiment, Pennsylvania Reserve Infantry (35th Volunteers) on July 29, 1861 in Towanda, PA. He was 24 years old at the time. He mustered in as a private on August 10, 1861. He was wounded at the battle of Antietam on September 17, 1862, and died in Washington, D.C. on September 27, 1862.

NOTE: The VA Nationwide Gravesite Locator service indicates that his name is Patrick McTagne, of Co. I, 8th PVI. On his gravestone, you can barely make out the name McTague. In addition, the 8th PVI was only a 3 month regiment in the spring and summer of 1861. Both the PA Archives and the National Parks Service web sites indicate that his name is Patrick McTague, Co. I, 6th PA Reserves.
