Henry, seventh child of nine, fifth son of seven, of Johann (John) and Francisca (Francis) (Schmiltzer) Melcher.

Brother of Martin, Joseph, Caroline (Van Ackeren), John May, Francisca (Hanke), Frederick, Jacob, and Bernard Melcher.

OBITUARY - Columbus Telegram, Columbus, Nebraska - Monday, Jan. 10, 1955:
Henry Melcher, 79, Dies; Services On Thursday
Henry Melcher, 79, formerly of Lindsay, died of a heart attack about 1 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary's hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Catholic church in Lindsay, with burial in the parish cemetery.
Rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Leo Melcher home at Lindsay, where the body will lie in state from Wednesday afternoon until the hour of the services.
Mr. Melcher, a lifetime resident of Platte county, was a farmer and cattle feeder at Lindsay until his retirement 16 years ago. He and his wife then lived in Lindsay until moving to Columbus last summer.
The son of John and Francis Melcher, he was born Nov. 25, 1875. on a farm in the St. Bernard community, and received his education in St. Bernard school.
On Feb. 12, 1901 he married Mary Korth at St. Bernard Catholic church and they made their home near Lindsay. While living in that community he was a member of Holy Family Catholic church.
Surviving are his wife; 12 children, Albert of Venice, Calif., Bill of Wenatchee, Wash., Lee of Lindsay, Joe and Larry of Mesa, Ariz., Edmond of Detroit, Mich., Ben of San Francisco, Mrs. Ernest (Catherine) Soulliere of Columbus, Mrs. Clarence (Eleanor) Zinn, Mrs. Vivian (Mary) Hoegerl and Mrs. Mark (LaVerna) Maguire, all of Omaha, and Mrs. Ed (Clara) Gates of Fergus Falls, Minn.; one brother, Ben, of Lindsay, 29 granchildren and three great granchildren.
Mr. Melcher was preceded in death by one daughter, Rosella, four brothers and two sisters.
The body was taken from the McKown Funeral home to the Smith Funeral home in Albion last night.
