Mary was born in Ireland, probably Co. West Meath, about 1849. She arrived in the US in the early 1860's and settled in Burrillville, Rhode Island. On June 5, 1866 she married Thomas B. McGuinness in St. Patrick's Church in the village of Harrisville. Almost immediately the couple headed west and lived in Iowa and Missouri before arriving in White Hall, Illinois prior to 1880. They remained there until at least 1885 and by 1900 were living in Chicago, where they remained for the rest of their lives. At some point, at least by the time they were in White Hall, the family name was re-spelled as McGinnis.
