Excerpt -- Frank P. Gocke, son of John J. Gocke, of Howesville, died on Feb. 18, 1887, of Pnuemonia. For the past four years Frank has lived in Parkersburg, and was employed by the B. & O. and O. R. R. Co.'s On Feb. 4 he came home with his wife and family, to visit his sick father-in-law, Terrence Doyle. On his arrival to his father's home, he fell sick. Dr. Martin, of Kingwood, was called and did all he could to check the disease. When his sickness grew dangerous his family physician, Dr. Campbell, of Parkersburg, was summoned to his bedside, but all care proved futile. Divine Providence called him home to die among his friends on Feb. 18th, at the age of 29 years, 3 mos. and 10 days.
On Sunday his remains were buried in the Catholic cemetery, after services at the St. Joseph's Church, where Requiem Mass was celebrated and the funeral service read by his brother, the Rev. J. J. Gocke, of Milan, Oh., with the Rev. Fr. Haimann, of Newburg, assisting with the funeral sermon. He was given well merited praise for his sterling character, as a dutiful husband and a loving father. Frank in life was a model young man, good habits and character. Some months previous to his death he joined the 7th Commandary of the Knights of St. George at Parkesburg. Thirteen members of the Commandary attended the funeral and conducted their deceased member to his final resting place. He was truly a Catholic Knight.
