Mr. Brown died as the result of an accident; he was struck by a streetcar in San Francisco. His daughter, Violet (Brown) Mogan, was the informant on his death certificate. The obituary does not give the date of the funeral and interment; however, his death certificate stated that he was buried on [Monday,] August 2, 1909, which was likely the date of the funeral, as well.

"BROWN --- In this city, July 29, James S. Brown, husband of Agnes Brown, and father of J. L., C. C., R. D., Arthur and Jessie Brown, Mrs. Violet J. Mogan, Mrs. S. R. Williams [Elizabeth] and Mrs. W. M. Stone [sic-Mrs. William Stoermer] [Agnes], a native of Scotland, aged 60 [sic-66] years.
**Remains at the mortuary chapel of the Golden Gate Undertaking Company, 2475 Mission street, near Twenty-first. Funeral and interment at Martinez, Cal., on arrival of 10:20 train from San Francisco."
