Joseph John Hagel, who resided for the past seven years at Prince of Peace Manor, passed away peacefully at the Peter Lougheed Centre on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at the age of 96 years. Joe was born in Beiseker, where he lived almost all of his life, and met the love of his life, Doreen (nee Perks). They shared fifty-two years of marriage, raised six children, and operated Hagel's Hardware for forty-three years. Joe was strong in his faith and his love for Doreen. His family is happy that, after mom's passing seventeen years ago, they are together again in the arms of God. Joe was a man of dignity, who treated others with respect. He enjoyed a good game of cards, especially when graced with the joy of unbridled laughter. Joe's top priority was his family and friends. He was very proud of his children, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Grandpa and dad, we will miss your generous soul but rejoice that you are now where you want and deserve to be. Joe is survived by his children, Glenn and Karen Hagel of Moose Jaw, SK, Lorne Hagel and Nancy Greenaway of Cloverleaf, MB, Terry and Anne-Marie Hagel, Diane Hagel and Jack Herron, and Lynn Hagel, all of Calgary, AB, and Mary Ann and Kevin Wiens of Lions Bay, BC; grandchildren, Kristin and Lawrence Ator, Meredith, Chloe, and Rachel Hagel; three great-grandchildren, Juliet, Nora, and Dexter Ator; sister Julie Perks of Three Hills, AB; sisters-in-law, Pansy, Joyce and Theresa Hagel. Besides his loving wife Doreen, Joe was also predeceased by six brothers, Aloys, Matt, Felix, Manny, Lawrence, and Albert; three sisters, Rose Mattern, Margaret Saunders, and Marie Funk. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McInnis & olloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North Calgary, AB, Calgary, AB) on Monday, September 3, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church (Beiseker, AB) on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Beiseker, AB. Reception to follow at the Beiseker Community Hall. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor's choice. In living memory of Joseph Hagel, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
