Gene was born on June 3, 1929 to Fred Charles and Marie Johanna (Fahrenkrog) Miller in Council Bluffs, IA. Gene was raised on his family’s farm seven miles from Council Bluffs and he graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School with the class 1944.

After high school, he worked for the Iowa Soil Conservation Service. Gene met Joyce Lenore Carpenter and they were later married on October 15, 1950 in Council Bluffs. Gene and Joyce made their home in Omaha.

He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for two years during the Korean Conflict. After serving his country Gene, a lifelong cattleman, joined the Omaha Livestock Exchange Board, and in his later years the owner of Lindley Commission Company. Gene and Joyce lived in Omaha until 2016 when they moved to Plattsmouth.

He was a member of the Bee Hive Masonic Lodge #184 A.F. and A.M. in Omaha.
