The following item will be of much interest to Stamfordites as the bride is a sister of our oldest resident, the widow of Eli M. Blood. Mr. and Mrs. Joel Johnson of West Brattleboro observed their 60th wedding anniversary January 22 at the home of a daughter, Mrs. H. Thurber as guests at a small dinner party. A son, Howard A. Johnson of Brookline, Mass., was also present. Mr. Johnson was born in Stamford Nov. 6, 1855 and Miss Jennie A. Ames of Hannel Center, N. Y., (born January 22, 1861) were married in Stanford, January 22, 1880 at the home of the bride's brother-in-law and sister, the Late Eli M. and Mrs. Francelia Ames Blood. Mrs. Blood and Mrs. Johnson are the only survivors of a large family. Mr. Johnson is an honorary deacon of the Baptist Church in West Brattleboro for life.

Mrs. Joel Johnson, 85, Of West Brattleboro, Dies

Mrs. Jennie Melissa (Ames) Johnson, 85, wife of Joel S. Johnson of 403 Western avenue, died at her home Wednesday evening at 7:30 o'clock. In failing health for a long period, she had been confined to her bed the past two months. Funeral service will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at Rohde's funeral home, Rev. Bennett Curtis officiating. Burial will take place in West Brattleboro cemetery. She was born in Hannibal Center, N. Y., Jan. 22, 1861, a daughter of John and Abigail (Cook) Ames. She married Mr. Johnson in Stamford on Jan. 22, 1880, the couple moved to Brattleboro about a year later. They lived here over 20 years before moving to Fisher's Island, N. Y., where they spent several years. Their home had been in West Brattleboro since 1918. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson markjed their 66th wedding anniversary last January. Besides her husband Mrs. Johnson leaves one daughter, Mrs. Herbert H. Thurber of West Brattleboro, one son, Howard A. Johnson of Pittsfield, Mass., and s sister, Mrs. Francelia L. Blood, nearly 90, of Los Angeles, Calif. She also leaves five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Johnson had been a member of the West Brattleboro Baptist church over 60 years.
