Ethel Gertrude Sayre, 88, of Green City, died Friday morning, March 6, 1998 at Northeast Regional Medical center in Kirksville.
The daughter of Grant Ulysses and Ella (Ritchey) Ipock, she was born November 19, 1909 in Shannon County, Missouri near Montier. On December 3, 1930 in Milan, she married Thomas Hobart Sayre, who preceded her in death on August 6, 1991.
Also preceding her was one son, Allen Dean Sayre; one daughter, Sally Lou Reeves; four brothers: Fred, George, Eddie, and Ben Ipock; two sisters: Minnie Ipock and Mary Lee Day; one daughter-in-law, Ada Mae Sayre; and seven grandchildren.
She is survived by one son, Wayne Sayre of Green Castle; one daughter, Doris Sayre of Milan; seven grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren.
Mrs. Sayre spent most of her life in the Green City and Pollock communities where she and her husband farmed. In 1956, they retired and moved to Green City.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 9, 1998 at the Glenn E. Kent & Son Funeral Chapel in Green City with Gene Lunsford officiating.
Burial was in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, east of Green City. Casket bearers were Harold Howard, Dwayne Howard, Rex Search, Barry Reid, Tim Sizemore and Jack Sizemore.
