Henry Shafer ,born in 1858 in Terre Haute a small settelment in Mad River Township. Champaign County, Ohio, He was the first son and second child of Nicholas Shafer who was born in Hesse-Cassel, Prussia, Germany
and Louisa Cook she was born in this county daughter of pioneer parents Lewis Cook and Broadrice Fay.
Henry spent the first 9 years of his child hood on the first farm the family owned in Terre Haute area before his parents relocated to Salem township, in the same county of Champaign, in Ohio.Where he grew to man hood.
Henry joined hands in marriage To Miss Jerusha Francis Stick.
She was born in 1857, in Randolph County Indiana to the parents of Samuel Stick and his second wife Mary Murry.
Henry and Jerusha were blessed with two wonderful sons. Edward Charles or Charles Edward as records differ, on the 23 day of Novemver 1882. and my Grandfather Harley Orland who was born on the 7th day of October 1884 .
Henry lost his beloved wife Jerusha, on the 10th day of September 1888,at age 29 years, 4 m. 23 d. to Jaundice.Henry lost his battle with Typhoid fever, on the 2 day of April 1889,at age 30 years 5 m. 22 d. leaving their two small sons to be raised by George and Florence.George was Henry's younger brother and Florence being Jerusha's younger sister they raised the boys to remember much of their heritage and both parents and grandparents.
Henry's siblings were, Elizabeth ( McGuire,) Martha ( Burk-Mauck), George W. and Charles F.
Henry and Jerusha's final resting place is not a lonley one. they share it with 20 other members of the Shafer family on lot 57 in section 66 at Oak Dale Cemetery, Champaign,County, Ohio
May their memory never be forgoten.
