3222 Corporal (or Lance Corporal) A Bosley, 2nd Battalion (Princess Charlotte of Wales's) Royal Berkshire Regiment. Served in 15th Mounted Infantry Company. The Battalion was in Cape Colony when the war commenced and was deployed in the Molteno district of the Cape Colony. Although they had been deployed at Stormberg, they were not part of the failed attempt to attack Boer positions in the area on 10 Dec 1899. They were part of the advance to Bloemfontein in Feb-Mar 1900. By Jul 1900 they joined a new brigade and were involved in much fighting north-west of Pretoria. In Dec 1900 the battalion formed the garrison of various posts in the Wonderfontein-Pan district. The battalion long remained in the Eastern Transvaal, and in 1901 was the infantry of a column under Brigadier General Spens. In Sep 1901 the battalion was back in Cape Colony operating under General French against Scheepers, and down to the close of the war they held a stretch of the railway between Beaufort West and De Aar. Cpl Bosley died of dysentery at No 3 General Hospital, Kroonstad, Orange River Colony. He is also commemorated on the Royal Berkshire Regiment Boer War memorial in St Georges Church, St Georges Road, Reading, Berkshire, England (see: https://www.iwm.org.uk/memorials/item/memorial/12817) and on a memorial plaque to the Townsman of Newbury who died in the Second Anglo Boer War in Newbury Town Hall, Newbury, Berkshire, England (see: http://westberkshirewarmemorials.org.uk/memorial.php?link=WB318)..
