Joan FitzGerald, an 85 year Ansonia resident and widow of the late James M. FitzGerald, entered into eternal rest at home May 29.
She was born in Derby, November 29, 1932, daughter of the late John and Helen King Foley.
She worked as a legal secretary for the law firm of Buckley & Flynn and later for the firm of Sheehy & Dillon. After retirement, she worked as a secretary for Assumption School for another 18 years.
She was a lifelong member of The Church of the Assumption. Joan served on the Board of Finance for Assumption Church as well as the Board for Ansonia Library. She enjoyed painting and sharing her works with her friends and family. Joan was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Her first priority was always her children. She leaves to cherish her memory sons James FitzGerald of San Diego, CA, John FitzGerald (Robyn) of Shelton, daughter Maureen Lowman (John) of Ansonia, grandchildren John, Matthew, James and Michael FitzGerald, Siobhian, and James Lowman and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Friday, June 1 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St., Ansonia. Friends and family will gather at the funeral home on Saturday at 8:45 a.m.
The Funeral will leave for a Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of the Assumption in Ansonia.
Burial will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby.
Friends who wish may give donations in her memory to The Assumption School, 61 N. Cliff St. Ansonia, CT.
