Herbert was the son of Shelt Abel and Anvilen Samantha Robinson Collins. On March 31, 1926 he married Eunice Opal Fox who proceded him in death on May 14, 1943. Herbert and Opal had four children; Marvin F., Lawrence Denzol, Norma Lea Rowlett, and Anna Loree Tilson. Herbert had four brothers; Webb Edgar, Harry Mitchell, Sterling Neal, and Delmar "Coonie" and four sisters; Ethel Fox, Clara Kelly, Jewell Brixey and Golden Collins. All are buried at Union Grove except Sterling, who is at New Liberty Cemetery. Jewell is still living.
