Mary (Morris) Prudden was the 5th child (of 8) of Daniel Morris (1702-1784) and his wife Hannah Mary (Riggs) Morris (1707-1765). Both of her parents were descendant from early founding fathers of New Jersey. Mary's mother was the granddaughter of Edward Riggs III FAG ID#32243177 one of the founders of Newark, New Jersey. Mary's paternal grandmother (mother of Daniel Morris) was Sarah Rose (Crane) Morris (1664-1739) granddaughter of Jasper Crane (1602-1680) FAG ID#152844291. Jasper Crane came to the Massachusetts Bay Colony on the ship "Arabella" with Governor John Winthrop. He was one of 23 colonists who later founded the New Haven Colony in Connecticut in 1639. He then emigrated as one of the early founders of the Newark Colony of New Jersey and is on the list of founders of the First Church of Newark January 20, 1667.

Mary married Moses Prudden with whom she had 12 children. She died within weeks of her husband in the same influenza epidemic.
