Ethel M. Johnson, 72, died at Swedish-American Hospital after a short illness. She was born November 8, 1900, in Byron, IL to John and Ida Mae Sherman Kerrison. She had a twin brother, Edwin, who died as an infant and is buried in Byron Cemetery.

She attended Byron Elementary School until moving to Rockford with her family in 1908. The family moved back to Byron about 1912 through 1915 when they then moved again to Rockford and lived permanently. She worked at Barber Coleman Manufacturing starting in 1918 to 1921.

She married Gunnard N. Johnson, June 15, 1921 in Rockford by the Rev. Bannon at the parsonage of Trinity Lutheran Church.

She was a sister to Marion, Eva, George, Stella, Lettie, Olive, Everett & Laura Kerrison

A loving mother to Keith Warren, Donald Lawrence, Jean Barbara, Robert Earl, David Lee, Joan Diane, Raymond Allen, Patricia Ann, Darwin Eldon & Beverly Kay Johnson. She was a homemaker her entire married life caring for her children by preparing meals, baking breads, desserts, and lunches for her husband and schoolchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gunnard, May 4, 1966, age 70; a daughter, Patricia, February 4, 1938, at the age of five months; and two sons; Donald L. Johnson, Cpl. USMC, aged 20, killed in the invasion of Iwo Jima in WW 2, and Raymond Allen, age 18, who died in an auto accident near Broadhead, WI, August 20, 1954.

She was a Charter Member of Alpine Lutheran Church.

Ethel's Memorial service was held at Wilbur Christenson Funeral Home December 23, 1972 officiated by Rev. Hubert Ahnquist.
