Obituary

Friends will be interested in the following obituary of a former Adams County resident, Dominick Conway.

Dominick Conway was born in Roscommon County, Ireland in the parish of Tulsch on October 4, 1845 and died in Creston on November 25, 1926.

As a young man he came to America and settled in Dubuque, Iowa in 1865, from where he moved to farm in Macoupin County, Illinois.

He was married to Catherine Hopkins, August 27, 1867 in the Holy Name Cathedral, Chicago, Illinois. She preceded him in death. To this union were born eleven children, two of whom died in infancy and one son, John, who died two days preceding the death of Mr. Conway. In 1911 he was married to Ellen Cronia Hayden, who with the following children survive him: Mrs. Peter Cronth, Chicago, Illinois; Mrs. Ed Ford, Nodaway; Mrs. Elizabeth Conway, Creston; D. F. Conway, Creston; Mrs. Agnes White, Creston; Matt Conway, Creston; Thomas P. Conway, Nodaway; and Mrs. William Kennedy, Nodaway.

In 1871 he moved to Nodaway, Adams County and settled on a farm, living there for forty years before retiring and moving to Creston, where he resided until death.

He was truly a pioneer in 'southwestern Iowa,' as there were very few people in this locality when he settled in Adams County. He was faithful to his God and the country of his adoption. May he rest in peace.
