Iola was married to my cousin.
Iola Gibbs Baxter was born Wednesday, May 18, 1910 in Woodruff, Idaho to Myron Levi and Sarah Lovina Harris Gibbs.

Iola married Merl H. Baxter (deceased) on November 19, 1929. From this union seven children were brought into the world, six girls and one boy. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan Temple on May 21, 1936.

She was a beautiful lady both physically and spiritually, with a keen mind, impressive memory, strong will and gentle sense of humor. Iola was raised and educated in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho. She lived in Salt Lake County, Utah most of her adult life, where she raised her family.

Her family and their well being were ultimately important to her. She made great sacrifices for them and was very proud of them all. She is the matriarch of a large loving family consisting of seven children, twenty-seven grandchildren, seventy great-grandchildren, and fourteen and a half great-great-grandchildren.

Iola was employed by ZCMI, where she made lasting friendships and retired after twenty years of dedicated service. She loved music, gardening-evident by her beautiful yard, flowers of any kind- especially roses, flower arranging, crocheting, holidays-especially Christmas, helping her family, the Lawrence Welk show, Saturday lunches, shopping with her daughters, and she was always up on current events. Holding a new grandbaby would always bring a smile to Iola.

Iola peacefully transitioned to her next life on Thursday, October 11, 2007 at her home with her loving family by her side. She resided at 2209 East Atkin Avenue (2825 South) in East Millcreek, Utah at the time of her death.

Funeral Services were held on Monday, October 15, 2007 at 12:00 p.m. in the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel located at 3401 South Highland Drive (1495 East) in East Millcreek. A viewing was held from 10:30 until 11:45 a.m. prior to the services.
Iola was laid to rest following the conclusion of the Funeral Services at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
REST IN PEACE.
