James Fitch, who for many years was a resident of West Pittston and during that time conducted a grocery store on North Main street, died yesterday afternoon at his home, Mulberry street, Scranton after a week's illness of quinsy, followed by pneumonia. Mr. Fitch was well known to the older residents of this city. Born in Falls township, Wyoming county, he began his business career as a store owner In Meshoppen. A few years later he located in this city and lived here many years. Twenty four years ago, he retired from active business life and moved to Scranton. During his residence in Scranton he was connected for 20 years with the Dime Bank as a director, and then that bank was consolidated with the Scranton Savings and Loan where he continued as director of the consolidated corporation. He was the bank's official appraiser. He was a man of keen judgment on real estate. His widow survives.
