Mary (Blalock) Strayhorn was born on May 16, 1911 in Georgia, the daughter of George Zadock Blalock (1866–1932) and Martha "Mattie" (Davis) Blalock (1878–1976).
She was married about 1933 to Dr William "David" Strayhorn Jr (1903-1981), the son of William David Strayhorn Sr (1870–1950) and Willie (Cherry) Strayhorn (1875–1962).
Living in Nashville, Mary was 73 years old and a widow when she passed away on May 28, 1984 at Vanderbilt Hospital.
Survivors included her daughter Mrs William Scanlon of Vienna, Virginia, sons Dr David Strayhorn and Al Strayhorn of Nashville, eight grandchildren, sisters Miss Georgia Blalock of Jacksonville, Florida and Mrs Elizabeth Blackford of Baltimore, Maryland and her brother Edgar Blalock of Jonesboro, Georgia.
Graveside Services were held in Woodlawn Cemetery, Nashville.
