Emil August Adolph Klose was the son of Heinrich August Klose and Johanna Louise Mathilde Kuhne. His parents were married in 1860 in Emden, Emden, Hannover, Germany. Emil was baptized on February 9, 1868, in Emden, Emden, Hannover, Germany.

Emil Klose, age 16 and born "abt 1868" in Prussia, immigrated to America in 1884; he sailed from Hamburg, Germany, aboard the S. S. California, and arrived in New York, New York, on December 22, 1884. His final destination was Chicago [, Illinois,], but he found his way to the San Francisco Bay Area in the next few years [Ancestry.com's, "New York, U.S. Arriving Passenger and Crew Lists (including Castle Garden and Ellis Island) 1820-1957"/Marriage Record/1910 Census, San Francisco].

He married Annie Shelton, daughter of William Edward Shelton and Mary Thorp, on April 2, 1895, in Alameda County, California; the marriage ended no later than 1900. The couple had two children, both sons who were born and who died in California, namely:

(February 29, 1896, Oakland, Alameda County - May 5, 1960, Santa Clara County) and
KARL ERWIN KLOSE
(March 9, 1897, Oakland, Alameda County - July 31, 1965, Lafayette, Contra Costa County).

Emil married the widower, Agnes (Aitken) Brown, daughter of James Aitken and Margaret Scott, between 1910 and 1920; they were married until his death. The couple had no children together.

"KLOSE---In this city, November 14, 1923, Emil A. Klose, devoted husband of Agnes Klose and loving father of Julius E. H. and Karl E. Klose; a native of Germany, aged 56 years. A member of Mission Lodge No. 169, F. & A. M., and International Union of Steam and Operating Engineers.
Friends are invited to attend the funeral tomorrow (Friday) at 3 o'clock at the Masonic Temple, Oak street and Van Ness avenue, where services will be held under the auspices of Mission Lodge No. 169, F. & A. M. Friends may call at White's chapel, Sutter street, northwest corner of Pierce."

According to his death certificate, Mr. Klose was a Steam Operator at Allec's Cleaning & Dyeing Co.; his wife, Agnes Klose, was the informant; and the couple lived at 1359 McAllister Street, San Francisco. Further, he was cremated at "Cypress Lawn", which is located in Colma, San Mateo County, California; however, he is not interred there.
