BLUEFIELD, VA — Elder Earl "Cecil" Belcher, 88 of Falls Mills, VA, died on Tuesday, November 11, 2008, at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. He went to see his precious Lord that he so fervently served here on earth. He was a godly influence in the lives of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchild, and his friends and church family.

Cecil was born on January 22, 1920 in Kimball, WV. He was the son of the late Lewis E. Belcher (Deceased) and Leona Lane-Belcher (Deceased). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Okla Pauline Fowler-Belcher (1918-2007); two sons, Johnnie Edward Belcher Sr. (Deceased) and Earl Cecil Belcher Jr. (1949-1949); two grandchildren, Johnnie Edward Belcher Jr. (Deceased) and Timothy Mullins (Deceased); a great-granddaughter, Felicity Sizemore (Deceased); one sister, Hazel Belcher-Sizemore (Deceased).

He was a World War II veteran that served in the 279th Engineering Combat Battalion overseas beginning September 1944. He served with his unit in France, Belgium, Netherlands, and Germany where he earned two Battle Stars. After returning from service, he worked at various vocations and became the owner of Belcher's Alignment in Bluewell, WV from which he retired, but remained active in the business and serving as a lay pastor from 1955. He was a member of the Elkhorn Regular Baptist Church and had served as moderator of the Friendship Association for 36 years.

He is survived by one brother, Clinton "Tink" Belcher of Oxnard, CA; one sister, Zelma "Tiny" Belcher-Novak of Harrisburg, PA; six children, Janet Belcher-Lane & husband Robert Lane of Abingdon, VA, Roxanna Belcher-Landreth of Bluefield, WV, Nathan Belcher & wife Vickie Belcher of Bluefield, Drusilla Belcher-Mullins & husband Vernon Mullins of Falls Mills, VA, Marsena Belcher-Mullins & husband Delbert Mullins of Bluefield, WV, Michael Belcher & wife Cheryl of Raleigh, NC; daughter-in-law, Barbara Belcher of Falls Mills, VA; 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Friends may call Friday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell and at the church one hour before services on Saturday at 10:00 with memorial services starting at 11:00 at Elkhorn Baptist Church on Belcher Mountain near Kimball, WV. Elders Bryce Phillips, Dennie Mullins and Lonnie Mullins will officiate the services.
