Martina Werth, 92, Hays, died Sunday, January 31, 2021 at home surrounded by her family. She was born April 7, 1928 in Hays the daughter of August and Anna (Braun) Spies.

On August 19, 1946 she was united in marriage to Ralph J. Werth and they celebrated 44 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on July 14, 1991.

She was a homemaker, a cook at Sacred Heart School in Ness City and Kennedy Middle School, a daycare provider and nanny for doctors' children, and ironed clothes for doctors and lawyers. Her memberships included St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church and St. Nicholas of Myra Christian Mothers. Martina loved to embroider, was a wonderful seamstress, a meticulous house cleaner, and enjoyed playing Bingo, slot machines at casinos, and Pinochle with her family. She also enjoyed singing, gardening, being outdoors, canning, cooking, and baking. Martina was a difference maker who built her life on simplicity, commitment to the Lord, and her family.

Survivors include six sons: Vincent Werth, Sr. and wife Helen of Munjor, Stephen Werth and wife Joyce of Schoenchen, Bernie Werth and wife Lona, Andy Werth, and Loran Werth and wife Kay, all of Hays, and Darrell Werth and wife Jodie of Olathe, eight daughters: Patty Stull and husband Rich Sieker of Hays, Bridget Stenzel and husband Lyle of Ness City, Marina Shauers of Wichita, Regina Hutchison and Donnetta Pfeifer and husband Terry, all of Hays, Geralyn Werth and husband Ernie of Schoenchen, Jacqueline Schneider and husband Mark of Cabot, AR, and Tina Unrein of Olathe, a brother: Bill Spies and wife Karen of Arvada, CO, a sister: Elaine Cisneros of Omaha, NE, 40 grandchildren, 72 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ralph, two sons: Ralph Werth, Jr. and Ivan Werth, a daughter-in-law: Pam Werth, four brothers: Celestine Spies, Daniel Spies, Wilfred Spies, and August Spies, Jr., four sisters: Anna Knoll, Glory June Partch, Margaret Billinger, and Abelina Billinger, three grandchildren: Trina Shauers, Wendy Stull, and Jeremy Dietz, and a great grandson: Triston Werth.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Friday, February 5, 2021 at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church with Fr. Damian Richards officiating. Burial will follow in St. Anthony Cemetery in Schoenchen. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Thursday and from 9:00 am until 10:00 on Friday, all at the church. A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 5:30 pm followed by a vigil service at 6:30 pm, both on Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be made payable to: Hospice of HaysMed or to St. Nicholas of Myra Church, in care of Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.
