Composer. Born into a family of musicians, Mena learned to play different instruments at a young age and would play in bands in Nicaragua, Honduras, and El Salvador. Diagnosed with leprosy, he was forced to move back to León, where he would spend the rest of his life living in isolation along the Chiquito River. Despite his illness, he remained active and composed numerous works including “Ruinas,” “Amores de Abraham,” and “Tus Ojos.” He is known in Nicaragua today as “El Divino Leproso,” or the Divine Leper.
