Franklin Delano Roosevelt Skelton, 87, of Sycamore, Ill., died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2021, at Kishwaukee Hospital.
Frank was born March 16, 1933, in Grundy County, Ill., the son of L. Fred and Ida (Roggenburg) Skelton. He married Beatrice Yearton on Dec. 17, 1954, and they had 66 years together. He last lived on Ramm Road, Maple Park, in the home they built together with her father in 1960.
Frank was “retired” but continued to be active. He had worked farming, running the elevator in Elburn, ran a corn sheller, hauled canned milk for farmers, drove for Floit Sand & Gravel, and did concrete work (sidewalks, patios, etc.) and he also drove school bus for Sycamore Schools for 20-plus years. Frank was an active member of Sycamore United Methodist Church since 1954, served as an usher, chairman of the Board of Trustees, and member of the choir.
Frank was the youngest of nine children, Albert, Louis, Irene, Dorothy, Mary, Delbert, Fred and Edith, all of whom have preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years; sisters-in-law, Josephine Maxstadt, Lydia Johnson, Betty Lahti and Linda Gibbs; and brothers-in-law, Richard, Randy and Kenneth Yearton.
Frank was a proud father to seven children, two girls, Kathy (Dave) Smith and Amilyn Skelton, and five boys, James (Shonda), Theodore (Tammy), Courtney (Robyn), Clayton (Terri) and Ronald. He had 19 grandchildren, Kristina (Todd) Gould, Diana (Jack) Zilz, Catherine (Ryan) Moore, Nicholas (Heather) Skelton, Rodney (Katy) Cobb, Heather (Jeremy) Hamm, Timothy (Allison) Skelton, Krystle (Tristan Bartholomew) Haeberlin, and Nathaniel, Grace and Alison Skelton; and 11 great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Gould, Jackson and Jonah Zilz, Eli Moore, Rory and Ellie Cobb, Emmaline and Nolan Skelton, Savannah and Grayson Hamm, and Taylor Haeberlin Bartholomew.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2021, at Sycamore United Methodist Church, 160 Johnson Ave., following visitation from 9 am to 11 am Wednesday at the church. Burial will be private at South Burlington Cemetery, rural Maple Park.
