Roberta Pope Perry was born May 13th, 1907 in Cofield, North Carolina. She was the devoted daughter of the late John and Deborah Pope. Growing up she worked hard with her brothers and sisters on the family's 103 acre farm – growing crops, raising animals and cultivating her love of nature and it's bounty. In 1929 Roberta married and relocated to Philadelphia with her beloved William Perry. William built his home in Trevose, Pennsylvania where Roberta lovingly raised and educated six children; all of whom graduated from college. In 1975, she suffered the loss of her true love William. She never remarried, remaining true to his memory until her passing.

Roberta was a devout Christian and devoted, cherished member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church. She joined St. Matthews at its birth in 1960. From the very beginning, she was an active member in church functions and organizations, which included; the Senior Choir; the Hospitality committee; and the United Methodist Women. She was the rare person whose faith in the Creator manifested itself in consistent acts of selflessness. Whether you came starving for food, in need of shelter or in search of a loving home, Roberta's heart was like the doors of the Church, always open.

She was the respected and dignified "Mrs. Perry". "Roberta", to a friend in need of a compassionate ear; and if a kind and gentle word was required, you could just sit and talk with "Mom". To her children she was "Baby Doll", with a face that would like up any room, and a laugh that would lighten your heart. To Grandpop she was "Birdie", and with violin in hand he courted her for a lifetime. She canned preserves, grew her own vegetables, out-baked bakeries, put fresh mint leaves in her tea and was famous for the best homemade, hot buttered, melt-in-your-mouth rolls you've ever tasted, and once you experienced her legendary Sunday feast, you too would call her "Grandmom".

Today we thank you for all the lives you have touched, the hearts you have warmed and the spirits you have lifted. We love you.

Roberta was the daughter of the last John and Deborah Pope of Cofield, NC; wife of the late William Perry of Trevose, PA; mother of the late Larry Pope Perry, Alvin Perry and William Sherman of Philadelphia, PA; grandmother of the late Keith Marshall Perry of Philadelphia, PA and Kevin Donald Austin Perry of Trevose, PA. She is survived by three children and one daughter-in-law; Charles and Jacqueline M. Perry of Trenton, NJ, Roberta Meteletes and Jeanne Perry-Becton of Philadelphia, PA; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
