The Sumner County Standard, Saturday, June 6, 1885
The people of this vicinity were startled on receiving the news of the drowning of the little nine year old son of Dennis Sharp, which happened on Thursday, the 28th inst. The particulars as we learn them are about as follows: On the morning named, himself, his brother and two cousins went fishing in Bitter Creek, and boy like, thinking the water shallow they waded into the creek when the unfortunate lad stepped into a deep hole and almost instantly sank to the bottom. This so frightened the other boys that no attempt was made to rescue their little comrade, and the above was the result. The remains were interred in the Kincaid cemetery.
