Artist. Initially known as a painter, he earned a BFA at the Center for Creative Studies in his native Detroit, Michigan, in 1975. Then 21 years old, he moved to New York City to continue his career in his chosen medium. While he continued to paint, his artistry soon found additional expression in drawing, writing, dance, and the creation of artist's books, as well as publishing. His work has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, among other venues in the United States, Canada, Italy , and Iceland. His memorials include "String Quartet No. 4" by celebrated composer Philip Glass, and the strikingly unusual and cryptic marble monument marking his grave. Bearing the legend "2 FOUND PUZZLES," the name of his spouse and fellow artist, Geoffrey Hendricks, is inscribed in the southern side of its base.
