Samuel Lawrence was born probably on March 9, 1733 in New Canaan, Fairfield County, Connecticut. His parents are unknown. He married Rhonda Benedict (daughter of Dea. John Benedict and Dinah Bouton) on April 5, 1759 in New Cannan, Connecticut. They had eleven children named Joel, Samuel, Rhoda (Mrs. Rhoda Lawrence Keeler Blatchley), Thomas, Elizabeth, Mary, stillborn baby, Hanna, Molly, and John Benedict. Samuel served in the Revolutionary War. He died on May 30, 1796 in South Salem, New York.
