Richard Geier, 59, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, after a battle with cancer.

He was born March 30, 1948, in Lamar, Colo., to Godfrey and Agatha Hoffman Geier. In 1955, the family moved to Garden City, where he graduated from Garden City High School and attended Garden City Community College.

After serving in the Army from August 1968 to May 1971, serving in Fort Wainwright, Alaska, Mr. Geier returned to Garden City and worked for several years at Schreiber Motors. Since 1977, he had worked at Osborn Heirs. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus No. 2795, both in Garden City, served as a Stephen Minister and enjoyed coaching his sons' baseball teams. He also enjoyed the Pittsburg Steelers, the University of Kansas Jayhawks, his dogs and spending time with his family.

On Aug. 30, 2002, he married Ellen Gillespie in Garden City. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Ross Geier of Stockton, Calif., and Eric Geier and Jamie Martinez, both of Garden City; his mother, of Garden City; five brothers, Jerry and Ed Geier, both of Garden City, Raymond Geier of Lyons, Paul Geier of St. George, Utah, and Pat Geier of Hays; five sisters, Judy Hunt, Joann Schlappe, Ruth Drees, Sara Saloga and Monica Geier, all of Garden City; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father; and a stepson, Casey Gillespie.

Vigil service and rosary was at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral Mass was at the church, with the Rev. Trong Tran officiating. A private family burial took place later in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
