David Boyer enlisted in the Union Army on June 16, 1862. He mustered in to Co. F of the 85th Illinois Infantry on Aug 27, 1862. At the time of his enlistment he was 22 years of age and residing in Pekin, Tazewell County, IL. He was described as being 5' 7", s/ light hair, and gray eyes with a light complexion. He was single at the time and earned his living as a farmer. He was discharged for disability Jan 19, 1863 at Nashville, Tenn. After returning from the war he married Mary Wiseman on July 28, 1866 in Tazewell County. They settled in Malone Township where they raised two children, Ida (Thornton) and John.
