Roy was the son of Willie James "Jack" Ross and Jimmie Lee Rhome Ross. He was educated in the Houston County School System. He was retired from the Houston County Sheriff's Department in Warner Robins, Georgia where he served as a Deputy Sheriff for over 20 years.
He was married to Mamie Brown Ross.
