"Louise Metcalf, age 88 of Phipps Creek, passed away Sunday, March 7th, 2021 at Smoky Ridge Health & Rehabilitation. A native of Madison County, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Bertha Whittemore Metcalf. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Max Metcalf, in November of last year, John Alden Metcalf and Ray Metcalf.

She spent over 30 years as a school teacher, having taught English at Erwin High School in Buncombe County.

Surviving are her nieces: Elaine Robinson and husband Danny, Kathy Courtney and husband Robert, Ellaree Dalton and husband Joey, Linda Clark and husband Marvin; nephews: Thomas Carl Metcalf, John Max Metcalf and Jerry Metcalf; sister-in-law, Winnie Metcalf; several great nieces and nephews, one great-great nephew and numerous cousins survive as well.

Services will be held Thursday, March 11th at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. The family will receive friends and loved ones an hour prior to the service. Reverend James Lamb will officiate. Burial will take place in the Cane River Baptist Church Cemetery in Burnsville.
