During WWII, Dwight served 3½ years as a radar mechanic with the Air Force. He graduated in 1948 from the University of Richmond with a degree in English. He attended Andover Newton Theological School in Newton Centre, Massachusetts, where he met his future wife, Marguerite Foster Goodwin. They married in 1949 in Poland Spring, Maine.
Dwight served as a pastor for several years before earning another master's degree and teaching high school for 14 years. He went on to serve as chaplain for the University of Michigan Hospital before retiring in the 1980s. He and Marguerite lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he taught Sunday school and did volunteer work. Dwight died in 2013 in Ann Arbor.
Spouse: Marguerite Foster "Peggy" Goodwin (1920-2017).
Daughter: Katie Anderson Hurd.
