Mrs. Agnes Dallis Leslie was born the fourth of five children on January 26, 1927 to George Washington and Hattie Freeman Dallis in LaGrange, Georgia.
On March 10, 2021 at 9:20 a.m., God whispered to our mother, Mrs. Agnes Leslie, to come home to Eternal Heaven because her work on earth was complete.
Her early education included attending Union Street School.
She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church for many years.
Mrs. Agnes married the late Leroy Leslie on July 7, 1949 and four children were born to this union.
Some of her early employers included Ideal Cleaners and B & G Department Store.
Mrs. Agnes graduated from Brown Barber College, Atlanta Georgia in 1951 and worked for Harris’ Barber Shop before opening Leslie’s Barber Shop in 1953 which remained open until her retirement in 1992. She attained the title of “Master Barber”.
Mrs. Agnes could always be depended on to help whomever and wherever there was need in the community. Mrs. Agnes looked out for the elderly in the community in addition to her own family.
Mrs. Agnes was an avid gardener who brought to life the phrase “From Plot to Plate” by growing most of the vegetables her family consumed throughout the year. Momma did it all in the kitchen – from baking to canning to creating new recipes. She was also a seamstress who sewed many clothing items for herself and her children. Mrs. Agnes also used this skill to make additional income by sewing for others. She was a member of the Co-Ed Club and the Golden Age Club and loved travelling by Greyhound bus. Mrs. Agnes also logged in one plane trip to the west coast before she put away her traveling shoes.
Mrs. Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Mr. Leroy Leslie; her brothers, George Dallis, Leroy Dallis and I.J. Dallis; and sister Margie Brown.
