Information from the book "The Alsop Tables II" page 397-398:

David lived with his family in Montgomery Co. and Wythe Co. The first known written record on David was in Russell County, Va. when he signed a petition in 1793 requesting that the legislature of Virginia reduce Russell and Wythe Counties to a third county, Tazwell. He also signed similar petitions in 1796 and 1797. When David's parents and most of his brothers and sisters moved from Wythe Co., Va. in 1795, he remained in the area and married Martha Edith Grant in Russell Co., about 1800, although the marriage record has not been located. David left Virginia and relocated to Sumner Co., Tn. about 1808, where he is listed on the tax roll of that county in 1816. His oldest known son Jeremiah had been born in Virginia about 1804. David was also the bondsman for the marriage of John Alsup and Prudence Henderson which took place in Sumner County on 6 Oct, 1813. This John could have been a son of David and Martha, but he does not appear on any known records after this marriage and he is not listed in David's will. It is possible that John could have been David's father who is believed to have been a widower at this time. This same John Allsup was listed as a witness on 26 May, 1812, Deed Bk 6, page 192, in which Edward Gwin sold 274 acres on Garrett's Fork of Trammell Cr. of Barren River near where the line of Ky. crosses said fork, to Robt. McClary for $274. Family tradition indicates that David and his family migrated to Sumner Co., Tn. between 1809 and 1811 with the Dance Brown family who were neighbors (or possibly relatives) in Russell, Co., Va., and the Caldwell family from the same area. Keziah Grant, a sister of Martha Grant Alsup, married Dance Brown in 1799 in Montgomery Co., Va., and their children were John, b. 1804; Anna, b 1805; Squire, b. 1808; Edith, b. 1813; and James, b. 1815/16. All these children were born in Va. except the last two who were born in Sumner Co. Dance Brown's sister Rahab Brown married James Caldwell, and they were the parents of Edith, b. 1805; John, b. 1809; Elizabeth, b. 1812; James, b. 1815; and Samuel, b. 1821. Sarah Brown, sister of Dance and Rahab, married Hardy Caldwell, and they had issue as follows: Elizabeth, b. 1805; William, b. 1807; Edith, b. 1811; Martha, b. 1813; David, b. 1816; Sarah, b. 1818; and Hardy, b. 1824. All of the children except the first two were born in Sumner Co., Tn. In 1841-The index to estates of Sumner Co., Tn. lists the name of David Alsup in the year of 1841, file number 1216. His will was probated on Mar 23, 1842 and he left all of his extate to his wife Martha. He names as his children one son and four daughters, and the will can be found in the Sumner Co. court records, file number 350, executor Moses H. Herring. Martha Edith Grant Alsup, widow of David, continued to live on the family farm in Dist. 15 of Sumner Co., next to her son Jeremiah as confirmed by the census return of 1850. Located in some loose records in the courthouse, is a lawsuit involving Martha and one of her sons, Daniel. The case was numbered 967, dated 1850, but no final decision was give. Martha evidently died soon after this as she is not found in any records after 1850.
