Malaysian Monarch. He was the 7th Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia from 1979 to 1984, and the 5th Sultan of Pahang from 1974 to 2019. He was the only son of Sultan Abu Bakar. He attended Malay College Kuala Kangsar, and continued his studies in Worcester College, Oxford. In 1974, he ascended to the throne of Pahang after his father died. In 1979, he was elected as the 7th Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia, after his own father failed to get elected five times. He succeeded Sultan Yahya Petra, and his term ended in 1984. In that same year, he served as the President of the Malaysian Football Association until 2014. He was also President of the Asian Football Confederation until 2002. On 11 January 2019, he abdicated the throne due to poor health. He died that same year.
