Edmund Miles was born in the summer of 1840 in Eastleach, Gloucestershire, England to John and Elizabeth (Godwin) Miles. He married Emma Margetts on Nov 14, 1861 in Coln St Aldwyn, Gloucestershire and they had five children together. After her death in 1899, he married Mary Jane Mustow (or Mustoe) in Eastleach Martin, Gloucestershire; she died in 1913. At various times Edmund farmed and worked as a blacksmith and as an innkeeper. He died in Arlington, Bibury, Gloucestershire on April 17, 1924 at age 84 and was buried in Bibury on April 22.
