Mrs. Rose Echols Ballenger widow of the late Will G Bellenger, Printup Hotel, died Thursday at a local hospital after being ill several months. Funeral services were held December 16, 1951 from Collier-Butler Chapel with burial following in Forrest. Survivors included two brothers. Mrs. Bellenger was born and reared in Gadsden, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William L Echols. Her father was one of the first town marshals of the city, being a combination police chief and street superintendent. He was also a member of the city council for several terms and was mayor of the city. He was a hardware merchant being the president of the Smith-Echols-Burnett Hardware Company. Her husband was also mayor of the city and one of its leading businessmen. She was popular as a girl and as a matron and news of her death will cause much sorrow throughout the county.
