98 Year Old Mt. Olive Matron Passes

Funeral services for Mrs. Z. A. Rogers, 98, of Mt. Olive were held at the Chapel of the Baldwin Funeral Home in Jackson on Wednesday, June 9, at 10 a. m. with Rev. Jerry Slonaker, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Olive officiating.

Mrs. Rogers passed away early Sunday morning at the Covington County Hospital in Collins where she had been a patient since Friday night. She had been in failing health for quite some time. The former Mattie Walker of Star, Mrs. Rogers lived in Magee and taught in the school there before coming to Mt. Olive to live some 50 years ago. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Olive and a charter member of the Mt. Olive chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Survivors include four stepsons, Charlie Rogers, Texas; Buford Rogers, France; Houston Rogers, Ohio; Archie Rogers, Missouri; two step daughters, Mrs. W. W. Bynum, Collins, Mrs. J. B. Smith, Mt. Olive; sisters, Mrs. Emma Butler, Star, Mrs. Maude Webb, Mrs. P. D. Atherton and Mrs. Effie Harrison of Jackson; two brothers Howard Walker and Barksdale Walker, both of Star.

Interment will be in the Lakewood cemetery in Jackson.
