Private E Meyers, 7th (The Queen's Own) Hussars. The Regiment deployed to South Africa for the Second Anglo Boer War, sailing on the Manchester Merchant on 30 Nov 1901. Shortly after their arrival they were brigaded with the 2nd Dragoon Guards under Colonel Lawley. The brigade was for some time in the north of the Orange River Colony. They took part in General Elliot's great drive in the last half of Feb 1902, resulting in the taking of over 800 prisoners, 25,000 cattle, 2000 horses, 200 waggons, and 50,000 rounds of ammunition. Private Meyers died from a self inflicted wound to the neck at 15 Stationary Hospital, Heidelberg, Transvaal shortly after the war ended.
